2008 Predictions Global Health

    The flu season will be mild due to immunization programs throughout the world that have been successful. However, Mexico and Korea will be hit more severely with influenza. Korea will have an emergence of the bird flu and other forms of hygiene-related viral infections due to agriculture and farming methods.

    “Super bugs” (antibiotic resistant virus, bacteria and fungus) will continue to emerge throughout the world without predictable patterns or in predictable areas. This is not the result of commonly-known infectious disease patterns as much as it is related to soil erosion. The cropping up of super bugs will be found in people who breathe dust and mites, people who farm, and people who are exposed to mold in closed quarters such as homes, businesses and hospitals.

    China is expanding at an alarming rate and the Chinese people are enjoying prosperity in an unsurpassed measure. However, this expansion is not without challenges and the people will see healthcare problems become a major issue in their society. The influence of Western culture will create a negative chasm for the health and well being of the Chinese people. Western health problems will emerge such as cancer, influenza and susceptibility to homegrown viruses such as the bird flu. By the end of the year 2008 and into 2009, there will be resurgence of traditional Chinese home life, health and well being, and long-established practices in medicine to curb the influx of Western culture.
