2 hungry kittens, wounded and found in the sewers do their best to heal

Ramapo-Bergen Animal Refuge Inc., an Oakland-based association, collected two small cats rescued from the sewers of Paterson Animal Control in early April 2022. The two kittens, named Leonardo and Donatella, still have to fight for life triumphs in spite of this bad start.

The “kitten season”, from March to October, is a trying time for shelters such as RBARI which ensures animal welfare in the north of the New Jersey, aux United States of America. In fact, during this time, many kittens were found in poor health in the countryside, in the cities and even in the sewers. This is the case of Leonardo et Donatellatwo kittens rescued from the cold, wet sewers of a city state by Paterson Animal Control. A long fight and a lot of love allowed the two little cats to regain their health and energy.

Deplorable living conditions that caused damage

Suffering from malnutrition, injured and infected with internal parasites, kittens had to struggle before regaining a taste for life. The little male, Leonardo, was injured in the back, preventing him from moving normally. The association’s veterinarians have not been able to determine the exact cause of the injury.

Fortunately, the caregivers of the RBARI received adequate treatment and care for pathologies resulting from the deplorable living conditions of kittens.

From now on Leonardo et Donatella (reference to the fictional characters of the Ninja Turtles living in the sewers) picked up hair from the beast. They gain weight by eating with a fierce appetite and get back to playing.

Even if Leonardo still has to consult a neurologist to treat his serious back injury, their days are no longer in danger.
