A study reveals where the cat moves when it is outside alone

Cats are real little adventurers who cause their owners to grow white hair and wonder where they are going to roam for hours. A scientific study was launched in Norway to solve the riddle. The results are amazing!

Project manager and professor Torbjørn Haugaasenof l„Norwegian University of Life Sciences (NMBU), and his team tracked 92 cats from a 1.1-kilometer zone over a one-month period thanks to a GPS collar. The aim is of course to solve the mystery of these great night or day walks for their anxious masters, but also to better understand the behavior of the cat population and their impacts on the environment.

“People are obviously very curious about what their cat is doing when it’s on the go.” Interest has been very high “ confirm Torbjørn Haugaasen.

Reassuring results

Mattresses, although they have enough food in their home to allow it to flow softly, spend a large majority of their time waking up outside. Hard to resist the constant meowing and not cracking to open the door for them.

The Jerusalem Post reports that the study was to dismantle the little cats who spend time hunting, playing, dating, etc., 50 meters or less from their home near 80% of the house! The maximum average distance is 352 meters.

Only a few more daring adventurers cover several kilometers.

These differences in behavior are mainly due to the individual personality of the feline and castration. The study confirms that an uncastrated cat is much more likely to move away from home.

The cats have not stopped wandering. Yet this habit of cats has a major impact on the local ecosystem. Our cats are predators at the top of the wildlife and can sometimes hunt and kill birds. On the contrary, they play an important role in the proliferation of rodents. By chasing them, the cats indirectly kept the world’s grain stocks safe from pests.

With this study, it will be easier to prevent this damage to the ecosystem. A beautiful outpost for the owners and for all the wildlife!
