The Gare du Sud bounced. This is what the mayor of Nice, who was betting heavily on the now-dying gourmet market, promised this Thursday. In conflict with the current operator, Christian Estrosi announced the arrival of a representative: “le grup familial” by Renato Iera, who owns, in particular, the Italian cuisine restaurants IT. Including one that already occupies the end of the building inaugurated in 2019 in the Libération district.
In its project, the group imagined a new concept based on gastronomy in the Mediterranean basin and consequently named “Mediterraneo”. The dishes on offer will be of Italian origin, of course, but also with flavors from the Orient, Greece, Lebanon or Spain.
“By the end of the year”
Iera “will fully exploit the project,” says the mayor of Nice. The handful of restaurateurs still present in the lobby, some of whom are still on trial with Urban Renaissance, the current operator, will therefore have to give way.
The transfer of the administrative lease to the purchaser has yet to be validated by a vote of the city council at the end of the month. “The city hopes that the project can be completed by the end of the year,” said Christian Estrosi.
In the meantime, the Iera group should continue to refine its project, especially on the issue of refreshment. It already provides for a greening of the space, which has several places to assist and receive associations upstairs.
