Site Vigilance Moustiques has placed more than 60 metropolitan departments on a red alert for tiger mosquitoes, which means that the species is “implanted and active” in the regions concerned. The tiger mosquito can carry tropical diseases such as dengue, chikungunya or Zika virus.
According to the Vigilance Moustiques map, a large part of France is affected by this red alert, mainly in the south and center of the country.
Five departments are on orange alert “spot interception”: Haute-Loire, Allier, Yonne, Loir-et-Cher, Ille-et-Vilaine and Oise. The other departments are on yellow alert for “entomological surveillance”.
Overseas, Guadeloupe, Martinique, Guyana, Reunion and Mayotte are at the highest alert threshold with cases of reported disease.
