This tool is now owned by the Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Service (MPR) of the Mangot Vulcin au Lamentin website. In Martinique, the stroke is responsible for more than 200 deaths a year and this is the leading cause of acquired non-traumatic motor disability, according to the France AVC 972 association.

Stroke affects more than 800 Martinique / year. Stroke is a course against the clock. The faster the support, the less important the sequelae are. The objectives of this operation are of two orders: firstly, to make the population aware of the risks thanks to the innovative rapid detection device and secondly, to make the missions of the France AVC 972 association known to the general public.

A stroke (also called an “attack”) occurs when blood flow to or from the brain is disrupted by a clogged blood vessel (ischemic stroke – most often in 85% of cases), or by a broken vessel. hemorrhagic stroke).

  • Ischemic stroke (or stroke)
  1. The artery is blocked by a plaque rich in cholesterol (atherosclerosis). We talk about cerebral thrombosis.
  2. A blood clot came to block the artery. It is then a cerebral embolism.
  • Hemorrhagic stroke (15% of cases)

It is most often due to a ruptured aneurysm. Tumors, hypertension and various coagulation disorders can also be the cause of cerebral haemorrhage.
