A new type of room would ever be in Brive-la-Gaillarde. This is what a Facebook group dedicated to the Corrèze sub-prefecture is reporting.
According to this publication, seen more than 140,000 times in 24 hours, “new generation” radars appeared in the city of Patrick Sébastien. The author of the post stated that he had seen a dozen in all. Other netizens react and confirm that they have seen these machines everywhere and warn each other against the development of video surveillance in the city.
According to the latter, this radar would be able to scan vehicles for possible crimes: belt wear, speed, telephone usage, insurance failure, technical control, gray card defect, etc. Do we have to make traffic radars at Robocop?
The accompanying photos show that this radar is installed in the city of Brive. Contacted par 20 minutes, the mayor confirms the presence of radars in the city, but she does not want to disclose their locations. A quick Google street search shows that the photo is a prize on the avenue de Paris, in front of the Brivoptic store, visible in the background. We find the large pole that carries the radar and the smallest, a pedestrian light, a few meters.
Where the publication attributes to this radar a number of skills worthy of “Big Brother”, the town hall calms the game. According to them, these cameras are not intended for speed cameras and are only used to read vehicle registration plates. “They are not intended for everyday use and are reserved exclusively for the use of the national police, gendarmerie and customs for their judicial investigations, such as the reporting of stolen vehicles. […] They are not intended for video recording purposes, ”said a spokesman for the municipality.
License plate reading
Mairie tells us that the Cité radars are from the Tattile brand. Find the model on the manufacturer’s website in the ANPR section for “Automatic Plate Recognition”. In French: Automatic license plate reading (LAPI). The manufacturer specifies the functions of this room: Péage, parking, access control and urban route tracking.
Some municipalities use these cameras, but their use is limited to post-parking package control. The National Commission for Information Technology and Freedoms (Cnil) recalled this in a statement in August 2020, in the face of municipalities tempted to use them to track violations of the Highway Code: “The collection and the processing of photographs of vehicles, including in close proximity to the license plate, for the exercise of the power of judicial police by the municipalities (in connection with the contraventions provided for in the Highway Code) are not allowed in the current state of regulation. »
Multifunctional radar not yet deployed
If rumors of multifunctional radars, as described in the publication, are regularly cited, including the launch of Mesta 2 fusion radars (called turret radars). Speed, crossing and soon noise
